Katherine Elizabeth Maney Broekhuysen was born the third child of Alpha Mae and Robert Michael Maney on August 27, 1942 in Oklahoma City, joining her siblings, Margaret Ann Dean and Michael Robert Maney. Katherine delighted in being a single parent to Elisabeth Ann Broekhuysen and Charlotte Louise Stansberry.
Katherine died of advanced breast cancer on June 5, 2018. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Oklahoma and Master of Early Childhood Education degree at the University of Central Oklahoma. Katherine used her degrees in schools in the U.S. and South Africa and in the Child Guidance Program of the Oklahoma City County Health Department. Her career in education lasted over 40 years.
She connected with International students through UCO CRISP and was a sustaining member of OETA-PBS. Katherine enjoyed music and attending the opera. She was a lover of children and all things beautiful, meeting new people, cooking, traveling, and gardening. She created a personal Zen garden at her home.
An evening prayer service will be held 6:00 PM Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Smith & Kernke North May Chapel with Mass of Christian Burial 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
