Kay Hickman (Cochran)

Kay Hickman Cochran passed away on June 16, 2005, at home with her two loving children by her side.

Kay Hickman Cochran married Bill Cochran (Harding, 1959) a few years after she graduated from Harding. They had two children, Kim and Chris. Kim was born in 1964 and Chris in 1967.  Bill passed away in 1999.

Kay could play 10 different musical instruments, had perfect pitch and could play any music by ear. She attended OU and OCU and received her degee in Vocal Music Education from OCU.  She operated  private music schools, just as her mother did. Kay's daughter, Kim Cochran Womack  was in turn Kay's partner in  Cochran Music School in Norman and Hickman Music School in Oklahoma City.

Kay wrote in our memory book in 2000 that her most exciting moment in her musical career came when she was asked to play the piano for Barbara Bush - this was duiring the time when George H.W. Bush was President.

When I was seven years old, my mother started taking me to Mrs. Hickman's house on Eubanks for piano lessons. That is where I first saw Kay, and her beautiful hair and eyes.

It used to amaze me how Kay could play almost any instrument you put in her hands.

Kay, I miss you and all the wonderful times we had at Harding and OU.  You were one of the most talented people I have ever known.  Love you, Cathy Kirk
